An Editor's Perspective!
We are all extremely fortunate to be members of an accounting association that is recognized as a leader in CPA firm practice management. By being a member, not only do we have access to so many resources and tools needed to make our jobs easier, we belong to a society of members where we can communicate with one another to share experiences, best practices and support and encourage each other through our participation on the discussion forum, local and regional chapter meetings and of course, the National Practice Management Conference held each year.
When I attended my first National Practice Management Conference in New Orleans several years ago, I was a little apprehensive about meeting new people and the overall networking that occurs. I’m sure many of you feel the same way. Networking forces us to get out of our comfort zone. I have found though, that by approaching someone and initiating a conversation, you soon realize that the person you’ve approached has the same goal in mind. You may work for a firm that is similar in size, people, be more HR or Marketing oriented, use the same tax software, etc., the possibilities are endless and these conversations can bring you closer to having an additional resource throughout the year. Not only is attending the National Practice Management Conference fun, but in my experience, I’ve made friendships that will last a lifetime.
By attending the conferences each year, I’ve established relationships that assisted me in getting on the Board of Directors for CPAFMA. I’ve enjoyed the experience so much and I feel that it has assisted me in growing professionally. We are very fortunate to have such experienced members on the board that work non-stop to improve resources which make CPAFMA the top resource for firm administrators and/or professionals dedicated to the management of the firm.
So get your boots ready and be prepared to make some lasting friendships in Fort Worth this summer! Who knows, maybe it will be the first step in your future as a possible CPAFMA Board member!
