Course Description

Has your firm talked about practice management system “data clean up” in the past couple of years?  We have talked to over 100 firms in the past two years and almost without exception, firms have a desire to clean up their data. Over time, the practice management system tends to get a little out of control with how things are set up.  Things continue to get updated and added over time without a great deal of thought into how it will impact all previous updates.  In the end, we have lots and lots of data, but not a great way to filter / visualize / analyze the data. 

In this session, you will learn about a three-step process to assist your firm in cleaning up data once and for all.  Based on the experience of data clean up in our firm, as well as discussions with 100+ additional firms, the presenters will share best practices.

Presenter and Moderator Bios

Presenter: Jana Cinnamon, Abdo Compass

As Chief Operation Officer, Jana helps lead the day-to-day operations of Abdo. She provides strategic leadership to the firm’s Human Resources, Marketing, Technology, and Administration functions to drive firm growth. Jana uses a people-first approach to implementing positive changes to both the client and employee experience.

Jana joined the Firm in 2012, has a Master’s in HR, was recently recognized as one of the Top 50 Women in Accounting by Practice Ignition, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the CPA Firm Management Association.

Presenter: Dan Alstrup, Abdo Compass

Dan Alstrup joined Abdo in 2020 as a Senior Manager leading the Technology and Data Analytics segment. Dan works with clients across all Abdo segments to help them use technology to gain real-time access to data analytics and automate business processes. He has extensive experience in architecting and building data analytics solutions using data warehousing, data lakes, cleansing and transformation services, and Business Intelligence platforms.

In the CPA industry, Dan has worked with several Practice Management systems to design data analytics solutions. Part of this process involved detailed work in the data structure and optimization of these systems. Dan's passion for utilizing technology to improve business processes and drive growth has led him to successfully deliver complex technology projects.

Presenter: Don Kreye, Abdo Compass

Don has been with Abdo for 12 years, first serving as the Sales and Marketing Director, and now as the Business Development Manager for Abdo technology solutions.  Don has 30+ years of experience in both sales and marketing roles in the professional services industry.  He is client driven, focusing on clearly understanding client challenges and developing value based solutions that bring automation and efficiency.  Don has been a frequent speaker and published author at regional and national CPA industry meetings and publications.

Cost

Delivery System

  • All programs are delivered using the Zoom platform.
  • Confirmations will include log-in instructions.
  • Participants are able to participate using any device with an Internet connect (if the device does not have speakers, the participant can also dial-in) or they can participate with audio only by dialing in.
  • All registrants will receive a link to the MAPCast’s recording by email within 48 business hours of event’s conclusion.
  • There will be assistance available to help with technical and connectivity issues up to 10 minutes prior to the start of the presentation.

Registration

All registration is done on-line with the names and email addresses of each individual guest. Log-in details will be emailed to all registrants approximately 1-2 days prior to each session.

Refund Policy

CPAFMA will not issue refunds for MAPCasts. If a registrant is unable to participate in the MAPCast and sends written notice to info@cpafma.org 48 hours prior to the session, a credit will be provided for a future MAPCast. Alert the CPAFMA staff member monitoring the MAPCast if technical difficulties are encountered and technical support will be provided to eliminate problems with future MAPCasts.

Additional Information

Live participation is required for CPE credit and polling questions must be answered to show active participation. All registrants will receive an email following the session with links to the slides and/or handouts, and a link to the MAPCast recording (unless otherwise stated). If you are unable to participate in the live session, you can still watch the recorded session, but you will not be eligible for CPE credits.
