Course Description

This session will talk about one of the top 10 AICPA Technology Issues for 2009 which was "Secure Data file Storage Transmission and Exchange."

This MAPCast is not a session for IT experts but rather for Firm Administrators, Partners or others to understand this change from utilizing email as the primary method of attaching files and emailing them to Portal usage.

Security Breach Laws have made Portals a very popular method of communicating with clients, etc. A Portal can also be utilized to create additional revenue streams for your firm. A demonstration of a Portal will be conducted during this MAPCast.

Presenter and Moderator Bios
David Bergstein, CPA, CITP is Director of Strategic Relationships for CCH, a Wolters Kluwer business. David has been in the Tax and Accounting industry for many years and has been a practicing accountant since 1966. While at the IRS he held various positions: Agent, Trainer, Speaker and Chief Technical Section. He received his CPA and a master’s in Taxation from Long Island University’s CW Post College.

He was an accounting professor at Suffolk County Community College in New York for over 15 years. In addition, he has served on the AICPA Top Tech Technology Team and presently he is a member of the FICPA Business Technology Section and the Financial Literacy Committee, and is an AICPA CPA Ambassador.

He is well-known as a speaker and trainer in the field of utilizing new technology to improve the efficiency of operations in tax, accounting, practice management and general operations of the accounting process.

David is a happy grandfather who tweets on Twitter while rollerblading. His hobbies include bicycle riding, tennis, and staying up to date on technology. If you are looking to keep up with him you can find him on Facebook or his Twitter account.


Matt Patrick is a Software Product Specialist with CCH. He provides insight as to how firms benefit from implementing and utilizing technology in the public accounting arena. Matt has supported the tax and accounting industry for seven years both for public accounting firms and corporations.

He brings a unique perspective to technology; as his wife is in public accounting and has seen firsthand how it impacts his life at home. Matt has a degree in Finance from Youngstown State University and has passed various securities licenses series 7, Ohio Life and Health, and Series 66 prior to joining the tax and accounting industry.

Prior to CCH Matt worked is in the software industry as a consultant advising clients on how to improve their processes and procedures to increase profitability and reduce costs. Matt resides in Western Pennsylvania, with his wife Jennifer of four years and two year old son Joseph.

Delivery System

  • All programs are delivered using the Zoom platform.
  • Confirmations will include log-in instructions.
  • Participants are able to participate using any device with an Internet connect (if the device does not have speakers, the participant can also dial-in) or they can participate with audio only by dialing in.
  • All registrants will receive a link to the MAPCast’s recording by email within 48 business hours of event’s conclusion.
  • There will be assistance available to help with technical and connectivity issues up to 10 minutes prior to the start of the presentation.

Registration

All registration is done on-line with the names and email addresses of each individual guest. Log-in details will be emailed to all registrants approximately 1-2 days prior to each session.

Refund Policy

CPAFMA will not issue refunds for MAPCasts. If a registrant is unable to participate in the MAPCast and sends written notice to info@cpafma.org 48 hours prior to the session, a credit will be provided for a future MAPCast. Alert the CPAFMA staff member monitoring the MAPCast if technical difficulties are encountered and technical support will be provided to eliminate problems with future MAPCasts.

Additional Information

Live participation is required for CPE credit and polling questions must be answered to show active participation. All registrants will receive an email following the session with links to the slides and/or handouts, and a link to the MAPCast recording (unless otherwise stated). If you are unable to participate in the live session, you can still watch the recorded session, but you will not be eligible for CPE credits.
