Course Description

In 45 minutes participants will learn how the profession performed since the last MAP Survey and what the forecast looks like. Analysis will include metrics and commentary on everything from client fees to partner compensation. Regardless of firm size, participants will discover something that brightens the outlook for the year ahead! In addition, participants will learn how to benchmark their firm and utilize the results to create strategies and realize successful outcomes.

Presented by Alan Alexander and Carl Peterson, this session will:
• Present firm owners, partners, chief financial officers, controllers, firm managers and others an analysis of the 2018 National MAP Survey
• Provide metrics and commentary on everything from client fees to partner compensation
• Demonstrate how benchmarking can provide vital information for key metrics that can help all firm sizes create strategies to propel them to the next level

Presenter and Moderator Bios
Carl Peterson, CPA, CGMA
Vice President Small Firms, AICPA

Carl serves as the small firm advocate and representative for the profession. In this capacity, he meets with small CPA firms regularly to understand their issues and represent these firms from an advocacy and firm development perspective. Peterson serves as the voice of small firms within the AICPA on standard-setting, regulatory and small business issues. He is responsible for ensuring AICPA initiatives continue to meet the needs of small firms.

Alan Alexander, CPA, PAFM
Chief Operating Officer, Jackson Thornton

Prior to recently joining Jackson Thornton as COO, Alan served as Senior Manager with RSM US LLP as the tax liaison between RSM US tax line of business and tax leadership within Alliance firms in the Southeast and Northeast regions. In this role, he worked closely with the member firms’ tax leadership and RSM US LLP's tax leadership to ensure tax professionals were positioned to deliver superior client service in the marketplace by building relationships. In addition to his role in tax services, he had responsibility in various areas of practice management, including working as part of a team to produce surveys on financial statistics and partner agreements, retirement, and succession. Alan served as the Chief Operating Officer at Sellers Richardson Holman & West for more than 15 years, responsible for the day-to-day operations of a 107 person accounting firm.

Free for CPAFMA Members / $45.00 for Non-Members / Free for PAFMs

Delivery System

  • All programs are delivered using the Zoom platform.
  • Confirmations will include log-in instructions.
  • Participants are able to participate using any device with an Internet connect (if the device does not have speakers, the participant can also dial-in) or they can participate with audio only by dialing in.
  • All registrants will receive a link to the MAPCast’s recording by email within 48 business hours of event’s conclusion.
  • There will be assistance available to help with technical and connectivity issues up to 10 minutes prior to the start of the presentation.

Registration

All registration is done on-line with the names and email addresses of each individual guest. Log-in details will be emailed to all registrants approximately 1-2 days prior to each session.

Refund Policy

CPAFMA will not issue refunds for MAPCasts. If a registrant is unable to participate in the MAPCast and sends written notice to info@cpafma.org 48 hours prior to the session, a credit will be provided for a future MAPCast. Alert the CPAFMA staff member monitoring the MAPCast if technical difficulties are encountered and technical support will be provided to eliminate problems with future MAPCasts.

Additional Information

Live participation is required for CPE credit and polling questions must be answered to show active participation. All registrants will receive an email following the session with links to the slides and/or handouts, and a link to the MAPCast recording (unless otherwise stated). If you are unable to participate in the live session, you can still watch the recorded session, but you will not be eligible for CPE credits.
