Course Description

CPAs who become over-reliant on electronic communication may face increased professional liability risk. Learn about the common risks CPAs encounter with this form of communication and how appropriate use of electronic media can lessen your potential liability exposure.

Presenter and Moderator Bios
Stanley D. Sterna, J.D.serves as Vice President in the Professional Firms Division of Aon Affinity. As a Claim and Risk Management Consultant, Stan provides quality control, claim/litigation management, and risk control expertise to many of the country's largest accounting firms. He also supports business planning, client relations, and sales/marketing initiatives for the AICPA Professional Liability Program and Aon's most valued internal and external business partners.

Throughout his career, Stan has specialized in the defense of professionals. Since 1998, he has exclusively handled accountants professional liability claims and litigation. Before coming to Aon, Stan served as the Director of the Accountants Professional Liability Claim Unit for Continental Casualty Company, a CNA company, the nation's largest professional liability carrier for CPAs, and underwriter for the AICPA Professional Liability Insurance Program. As Director, he was responsible for strategic and business planning; training; client relations; sales/marketing development; IT enhancement; and day-to-day management of the claim unit.

Stan is a frequent lecturer and published author on the subject of accountants professional liability. He is past winner of the Florida State Society of CPAs "Excellence in Writing Award" and the Florida Magazine Association’s "Charlie Award" (the association’s highest honor). Stan is a member of the Illinois and Federal bar, past Vice Chair of the Defense Research Institute (DRI) Professional Liability Committee's Accountants Litigation Group, and past member of the American Arbitration Association's Accountants Professional Liability Rules Committee

Cost
$25.00 for CPAFMA Members / $40.00 for Non-Members / Free for PAFMs

Delivery System

  • All programs are delivered using the Zoom platform.
  • Confirmations will include log-in instructions.
  • Participants are able to participate using any device with an Internet connect (if the device does not have speakers, the participant can also dial-in) or they can participate with audio only by dialing in.
  • All registrants will receive a link to the MAPCast’s recording by email within 48 business hours of event’s conclusion.
  • There will be assistance available to help with technical and connectivity issues up to 10 minutes prior to the start of the presentation.

Registration

All registration is done on-line with the names and email addresses of each individual guest. Log-in details will be emailed to all registrants approximately 1-2 days prior to each session.

Refund Policy

CPAFMA will not issue refunds for MAPCasts. If a registrant is unable to participate in the MAPCast and sends written notice to info@cpafma.org 48 hours prior to the session, a credit will be provided for a future MAPCast. Alert the CPAFMA staff member monitoring the MAPCast if technical difficulties are encountered and technical support will be provided to eliminate problems with future MAPCasts.

Additional Information

Live participation is required for CPE credit and polling questions must be answered to show active participation. All registrants will receive an email following the session with links to the slides and/or handouts, and a link to the MAPCast recording (unless otherwise stated). If you are unable to participate in the live session, you can still watch the recorded session, but you will not be eligible for CPE credits.
