Course Description

After all the work of recruiting a new employee, the acceptance of a job offer is exciting for everyone involved. A collective sigh of relief can be heard around the office knowing that a new member of the team will be starting soon. This is often the moment that people relax and forget that the work of getting this new person on-board is not yet done. In fact, on-boarding is one of the most important processes there is in retaining talent. This process doesn't just entail some paperwork or the review of a handbook. It's critical that all organizations work hard to get new employees on board by giving them the tools, resources and knowledge to be successful and productive. The faster new hires feel welcomed and prepared for their jobs, the faster they will provide value to the organization. This one-hour MAPCast led by two experienced practice management professionals will review the components of a successful on-boarding program and all attendees will receive a copy of AAA's Best Practice, The On-Boarding of New Hires: The Orientation following the session.

Presenter and Moderator Bios
Laurie Simonson, AAAPM enjoys entertaining and can often be found hosting family and friends at her home. Since joining Froehling Anderson in 2006, she has poured her gift for hospitality into her role as director of operations. “I know how important the right kind of environment is to our staff and, ultimately, our clients,” she says. Laurie oversees the firm’s operations, including human resources, recruiting, communications and training. Before making her way into the accounting realm in 1999, Laurie spent six years as a successful business owner and 13 years in the creative field. She relies upon her creative skill set to find new ways to make the firm’s culture healthy and fun. Culture has always been important to Laurie. In fact, it is what initially drew her to Froehling Anderson. “I was just blown away by the incredible team in place here,” she says. “I am dedicated to making our firm a great place—not only to work, but to grow.” Laurie stays up to date with the issues affecting the accounting industry by staying involved—both locally and nationally—with the Association for Accounting Administration where she serves as Director of Chapter Development on a national level. When she’s not entertaining, she and her husband enjoy spending time with their grown children. Laurie finds an outlet for her creative energy through photography projects.
