Job Description:

Job title: Fund Accountant

Basic Purpose/Function: 

The Individual will be responsible for maintaining the accounting records, both on a U.S. GAAP and tax basis, and preparing comprehensive financial reports with corresponding supporting documentation, for various entities managed by the firm.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

GAAP:

  • Responsible for accounting operations for flow through entities (partnerships, LLCs, S-Corps, C-Corps, and blocker entities) including the following:
  • Records portfolio investment transaction and other operating activity,
  • Performs cash management functions (maintains check registers and investment of idle funds, calculating capital calls and distributions to partners),
  • Monitors accounts receivable and accounts payable (including payment of invoices).
  • Responsible for full accounting closing, on a defined periodic basis, including compiling backup for journal entries, posting entries to PC based software on a real time basis, and generating financial statements and various supporting schedules.
  • Records quarterly valuation adjustments for portfolio investments and reconciles to accounting records.
  • Prepares quarterly reporting packages for Advisory Boards and Limited Partners, including financial statements and transaction narratives.
  • Compiles financials, drafts footnotes, and provides necessary back-up for annual audits.
  • Recognizes changes in the environment which will impact entities and communicate to management for consideration.

 

Tax:

  • Prepares tax basis financial statements and supporting schedules on a defined periodic basis.
  • Calculates quarterly tax estimates and provides to tax personnel.
  • Maintains 1099 detailed information and reconciles to year-end reporting. Issues 1099s annually as required.
  • Updates investment basis schedules, capital gains schedules (including supporting documentation), and computes and records adjusting entries based on K-1 received and completes final tax closings.
  • Compiles annual tax basis financial information and drafts transaction narratives to be issued with K-1.

Software/Proficiency Required:

  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong Excel skill level
  • PC based general ledger and reporting (Great Plains Dynamics & Management Reporter “MR”).
  • PC based wire transfer application (SVB (Silicon Valley Bank) on-line banking).
  • PC based Private Equity enterprise software (Allvue & TNR)

 

 

Education Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting

Experience, Skill Level Required:

  • Detail oriented, organized, with relational problem-solving abilities and strong analytical skills.
  • Exposure to both U.S. GAAP and tax basis accounting.
  • 1-3 years or more of accounting experience.
    • experience in Private Equity industry or similar industry, with a working knowledge and understanding of accounting relating to various types of flow through entities (partnerships, LLCs & S-Corps) is a plus.
    • Candidates can come from any industry if they have a bachelor’s and accounting with hands on GL accounting experience. The Controller did not have prior Private Equity accounting experience when he joined Nautic 20+ years ago and therefore is willing to train others on Private Equity fund accounting.
